While titanium exhibits a high strength-to-weight ratio, high tensile strength, and other admirable properties, it is a highly reactive metal with poor electrical properties. A platinum coating makes titanium ideal for many industrial applications; however, like its refractory relatives, titanium quickly forms an agressive oxide that makes plating difficult. At Nu-Metal Finishing, we have developed chemical, mechanical, and thermal surface preparation, mastered sintering in inert atmospheres, and developed plating processes that are cost-effective even when complex masking is required. More expensive than gold, platinum and its alloys have recently made a dramatic resurgence as one of the premier metals. Platinum has found a niche in several markets. It is used extensively in the electronics industry, automotive catalytic exhaust systems, silicon chip manufacturing, aerospace, and in the medical industry.

Platinum has exceptional resistant to scratching, a high melting point, and an excellent resistance to tarnishing. The appearance of platinum plated material is dependant upon base material type and type of post treatment operations performed. It is also a very good alternative to rhodium plating.
